Laboratory of Language Engineering and Computing is a social science key laboratory of higher education institutions in Guangdong Province, which is the first provincial key laboratory for liberal arts of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. Laboratory of Language Engineering and Computing was founded under the approval of Office of Education of Guangdong Province in December 2013, and was formally established in June 2014.The laboratory was approved as a national key laboratory cultivation platform of Guangdong province in December 2014.
The laboratory is mainly engaged in scientific research and practice in the field of language learning, information understanding and language services. The lab’s main research areas include:
1. The theories and models of language computing.
2. Computer assisted language learning, teaching, testing and translation.
3. The construction of language knowledge base and application platform for language service.
4. Social computing, information retrieval, text mining.
Our laboratory is the first key laboratory with a focus on linguistics in Guangdong Province. The research of scientific problems of language teaching, language learning and language research are conducted from multi-perspective, multi-level and cross－disciplinary approaches, and with the aid of modern information processing methods and technologies. We expect to propose novel research methods for humanity research, output high level，highly visible, and original scientific research outcomes, serve the economic and social development of Guangdong Province， and support national language and culture development strategies. We aspire to become an influential cross-disciplinary research platform in China and abroad.
